The Philippine Chamber of Agriculture and Food Inc. (PCAFI) warned that the government’s proposed nutrient profile model could raise food manufacturing costs and affect agricultural exports.
The group said the Department of Health’s plan includes strict limits on fat, salt, and sugar content that may force manufacturers to reformulate products.
PCAFI also raised concerns that the policy could increase prices of export goods such as dried mangoes and durian, while potentially reducing market access for farmers and fisherfolk.
It added that food companies may face higher costs due to product reformulation, packaging changes, and supply chain disruptions.
The group urged the government to conduct broader consultations and a regulatory impact assessment before approving the measure.
