The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has allocated P197.21 million to provide free internet access for one year to 587 geographically isolated and disadvantaged communities and 52 hospitals in Metro Manila under its Free Public Internet Access Program.
Of the total budget, P179.49 million will fund satellite-based internet services for remote areas across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, while P17.72 million will support fiber-optic connectivity in major hospitals in the National Capital Region.
The DICT said selected service providers must meet minimum speed, data allocation, and latency requirements to ensure reliable internet access.
Internet services for remote communities are expected to be activated within 30 days after the notice to proceed, while hospitals are targeted for connection within 120 days.
The initiative aims to improve digital connectivity, expand access to essential online services, and bridge the digital divide in underserved areas.
