The Department of Education (DepEd) reported that 11,968 schools are at flood risk and 12,747 schools are at risk of landslides due to Super Typhoon Uwan.
Region 3 has the highest number of flood-prone schools, while Region 4-A leads in schools vulnerable to rain-induced landslides.
In response, 33,762 public schools across several regions, affecting over 16.6 million learners and 729,293 personnel, have suspended in-person classes.
Currently, 372 schools and 1,800 classrooms are being used as evacuation centers, with DepEd coordinating closely with local disaster councils for pre-emptive evacuations.
DepEd urged schools to activate disaster response teams, secure learning materials, and pre-position emergency supplies to prepare for flooding, landslides, and storm surges.
