DEPED CHIEF EMPHASIZES CAMPUS SAFETY, STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT

Education Secretary Sonny Angara called for stronger cooperation among schools, local governments, and police to improve campus security following the fatal shooting at Banga National High School.

He said schools need additional security personnel and support from barangay officials and local watchmen, especially those without dedicated guards.

Angara also stressed the need for early mental health intervention and said DepEd is hiring School Counselor Associates to support students.

DepEd has deployed Psychological First Aid teams and is reviewing school safety guidelines with the DILG and PNP.

Angara also proposed a Joint School Safety Task Force to assess risks in schools and strengthen their preparedness for emergencies.
