The Department of Agriculture (DA) has lifted the temporary import ban on livestock animals and products from Hungary after the country was declared free from foot-and-mouth disease (FMD).
The agency issued a circular allowing the resumption of imports of FMD-susceptible animals, meat and animal by-products from Hungary.
DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the decision balances animal health protection with the need to maintain food security and stable supply chains.
He added that diversifying import sources can help reduce risks from disease outbreaks, climate disruptions and market volatility.
The resumption of imports will take effect 15 days after the circular’s publication and registration with the Office of the National Administrative Register.
