Greg Gasataya called for greater accountability among media practitioners following controversial rape remarks made by a local radio anchor during a live broadcast.
Gasataya said joking about sexual violence reflects a failure of empathy and stressed that rape should never be treated as humor.
He revealed that management of K5 News FM Bacolod had required broadcaster Jean Paul Generoso to issue a public apology, respond to a Notice to Explain, and undergo suspension after evaluation.
The controversy stemmed from a May 20 broadcast where Generoso repeatedly made inappropriate rape-related remarks while speaking with a female field reporter covering a child abuse case.
Gasataya emphasized that media platforms should promote respect and sensitivity toward women and reaffirmed the city government’s support for victims of abuse.
