The United States is providing USD 1 million in emergency aid to support the Philippines’ relief and recovery efforts following Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi) and recent earthquakes, the US Department of State announced Saturday.
Typhoon Tino, which made landfall on Tuesday, caused severe flooding across the Visayas and Mindanao, leaving 164 dead, 176 injured, and 79 missing.
The US aid includes emergency shelter, logistics support, and safe water and sanitation, particularly for hard-hit areas like Cebu.
The US pledged to coordinate closely with the Philippine government and local organizations to ensure timely and effective relief, emphasizing its commitment to saving lives and helping communities recover.
Meanwhile, the Philippines remains on alert as Typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong) is forecast to intensify into a super typhoon and make landfall in Northern Luzon on Sunday.
