After a unanimous decision loss to Yukinori Oguni in Tokyo, former two-division champion Marlon Tapales said he plans to move up to featherweight.
Tapales, who missed the super bantamweight limit by 0.06 pounds, acknowledged that his body struggled to make weight.
The judges scored the fight 96-94, 97-94, and 98-92 in favor of Oguni, who improved his professional record to 24-4-3.
In a Facebook post, Tapales thanked his supporters, congratulated Oguni, and emphasized the importance of resilience.
He said he will rest with his family before returning to compete at featherweight, where he hopes to be more comfortable with his weight.
