A lawmaker said the claim of Vice President Sara Duterte’s camp that a “P2 billion” bank record was a system glitch should be properly presented during the Senate impeachment trial.
San Juan Rep. Ysabel Maria Zamora stressed that allegations involving financial records and unexplained wealth must be substantiated in court, especially as they relate to SALN disclosures.
The issue stemmed from claims that a Bank of the Philippine Islands record was actually “P2 million,” not “P2 billion,” though the bank has declined to confirm details, citing confidentiality rules.
The Anti-Money Laundering Council had earlier reported suspicious transactions involving billions of pesos linked to Duterte and her husband, Manases Carpio, which he has disputed.
The House justice committee has already approved articles of impeachment against Duterte, which will now proceed to the Senate for trial.
