The Philippine Association of Private Telecommunications Companies (PAPTELCO) raised concerns about the recently passed Senate Bill 2699, warning that it could displace small telecommunications providers. PAPTELCO argued that the bill undermines local firms and could open the door for foreign dominance in the market. PAPTELCO President Normandy Baldovino Jr. emphasized the critical role of smaller telcos in serving rural areas that larger companies neglect. He called the bill “anti-Filipino” and warned it would harm small businesses crucial in bridging the digital divide. If passed, the bill could lead to the loss of many small firms that provide vital connectivity.
