The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will deploy 7,000 Starlink satellite units to ensure smooth transmission of election results, especially in areas with limited telecom coverage.
The Starlink units will be allocated to regions with only one or no telecom providers, offering 200 Mbps bandwidth for real-time result transmission.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia emphasized the severe legal consequences for anyone caught tampering with or stealing the units, which could lead to prison sentences ranging from one to six years.
With Starlink, Garcia anticipates unprecedented transmission speeds, expecting all precinct data to reach consolidation systems by 8 p.m. on election day.
To promote transparency, Comelec will distribute voter information sheets nationwide by April, outlining all national and local candidates.
