Senator Robin Padilla reaffirmed that he will leave politics when his term ends in 2028, saying the decision was final and already agreed upon with his wife.
He said they plan to move to an Islamic country, with Brunei and Malaysia among the destinations they have considered, to raise their child according to Islamic principles.
Padilla said he has no plans to seek another political position despite possible calls for him to run again, saying he does not feel suited to Philippine politics.
He also expressed disappointment over his inability to advance a shift to a parliamentary form of government during his two years as chair of the Senate Committee on Constitutional Amendments.
Padilla, who topped the 2022 senatorial race with more than 26 million votes, said he has no regrets about his efforts to push for change while serving in the Senate.
