The National Kidney Transplant Institute (NKTI) has reached full capacity following a surge in leptospirosis cases after heavy rains and flooding in Metro Manila.
The Department of Health (DOH) advised patients with kidney-related concerns to seek care at other DOH hospitals while an inter-hospital referral system is being implemented.
Leptospirosis patients who become stable may be transferred to the Philippine General Hospital to help ease the pressure on NKTI.
The DOH said it has distributed 3.1 million Doxycycline capsules to health centers as part of efforts to address the disease.
As of Aug. 22, the country had recorded 4,285 leptospirosis cases, while 13 deaths have been reported in Metro Manila from Jan. 1 to Aug. 24.
