PHIVOLCS ALERT TRIGGERS CLASS SUSPENSION IN CANLAON CITY

Canlaon City Mayor Jose Chubasco Cardenas ordered the suspension of all classes at public and private schools at 12 p.m. until further notice due to ashfall and continued volcanic activity at Mount Kanlaon.

The move followed a Phivolcs advisory placing Kanlaon Volcano at Alert Level 2. Phivolcs recorded two ash emission events, three volcanic earthquakes and a drifting volcanic plume that could affect public health, air quality and road safety.

The suspension covers in-person classes and school activities requiring physical presence, with school heads instructed to ensure students are dismissed safely.

Parents and guardians are urged to monitor updates from the city government, DepEd and Phivolcs as authorities continue assessing the situation.
