Philippine lawmakers and groups have condemned the United States’ capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, calling it a violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty.
Rep. Leila de Lima and Akbayan Partylist criticized the move as undermining the rules-based international order and likened it to superpower aggression similar to China’s actions in the West Philippine Sea.
The US apprehended Maduro and his wife on charges of narco-terrorism and temporarily took control of Venezuela’s administration during a transitional phase.
While some countries, like the UK, supported Washington’s action, China and the Philippines’ Department of Foreign Affairs urged restraint and peaceful resolution.
The criticism highlights concerns over moral credibility, international law, and the broader implications of superpower interventions.
