Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan agreed with the House that the Supreme Court (SC) made a factual error when it voided the articles of impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte.
He criticized the Senate’s decision to archive the complaint prematurely, arguing that the pending motion for reconsideration (MR) filed by the House should first be resolved.
Pangilinan said the MR is an opportunity for the SC to correct its ruling, which he said was based on a mistaken interpretation of a news report.
He also disputed the use of the one-year bar rule to dismiss the fourth impeachment complaint, explaining that the first three complaints were already archived before the fourth was initiated.
Pangilinan, who voted against archiving the articles, emphasized that the Senate should have waited for the SC’s reconsideration before acting.
