Malacañang rejected calls to include opposition members in the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), saying the body’s current composition is already nonpartisan and independent.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin emphasized that President Marcos personally handpicked the three members to ensure objectivity and checks and balances.
The ICI is led by former Supreme Court Justice Andres Reyes, with Rogelio Singson and Rossana Fajardo as members, all without active political affiliations.
Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano had urged the inclusion of opposition figures and religious leaders to promote fairness, but Bersamin called the proposal unnecessary.
The commission will livestream its hearings once rules of procedure are finalized, though Malacañang stressed it will not influence the ICI’s operations.
