Malacañang said Sen. Pia Cayetano has no reason to fear for her liberty if she has done nothing wrong.
The Palace made the statement after Cayetano said during a Senate impeachment court session that she felt pressured and feared for her liberty, citing alleged statements by NBI Director Melvin Matibag.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Matibag had clarified that the NBI was not monitoring Cayetano and urged her not to panic.
Castro also questioned whether Cayetano’s concerns were linked to her brother, Sen. Alan Cayetano, and an alleged P1.5-billion budget insertion.
She maintained that investigations and court cases should not be viewed with suspicion, saying authorities have gathered evidence and witnesses are willing to testify.
