Japanese Ambassador-designate to the Philippines vowed to strengthen people-to-people ties between Japan and the Philippines, calling them the foundation of bilateral relations.
He said he would expand exchanges between Filipinos and Japanese and help pass these ties on to future generations.
Kitagawa also pledged continued support for the Japanese community in the Philippines, particularly on safety, health, and well-being.
He arrived as the two countries mark 70 years of diplomatic relations and prepare to build on their new Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Kitagawa also said Japan would work with the Philippines during its ASEAN chairmanship to address shared regional challenges.
