NEGROS OCCIDENTAL REPRESENTATIVE TAKES OATH AS DEPUTY SPEAKER

Negros Occidental 6th District Rep. Mercedes Alvarez has been elected deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, returning to a position she first held 10 years ago.

Alvarez thanked her colleagues and the Nationalist People’s Coalition for their support and vowed to uphold her responsibilities in the post.

She replaced Ilocos Sur Rep. Kristine Singson-Meehan and took her oath before House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III.

During the same plenary session, Negros Occidental 1st District Rep. Julio Ledesma IV was named chair of the House Committee on Economic Affairs.

Alvarez said she remains committed to serving her constituents and promoting local products from her district.
