President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the Philippines’ attainment of upper-middle-income status after nearly four decades validates the government’s economic policies and reflects a “vote of confidence” in the country’s future.
In a video message, he said the milestone shows that the administration’s reforms, steady economic growth, and stable currency have strengthened the economy despite global uncertainties.
Marcos noted that the achievement also highlights the resilience and efforts of Filipinos in building the nation’s progress since 1987.
He added that the new status is expected to attract more investments, create better jobs, and expand opportunities for Filipino families.
The World Bank announced the upgrade after the Philippines reached a record-high gross national income per capita in 2025.
