The Manila city government is intensifying efforts against dengue following a rise in cases in neighboring cities. Mayor Honey Lacuna has directed various health departments and barangay officials to implement additional preventive measures, including deploying larvicide kits and increasing misting operations. The city is focusing on eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites, such as rainwater-filled tires atop homes. Although there is no dengue outbreak in Manila, with a low case fatality rate of 0.62%, 25 barangays have seen an uptick in cases. Authorities are also increasing the supply of medicines and vitamins to local health centers to bolster residents’ immunity.
