Senator Imee Marcos criticized her brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., for suspending a scheduled fare hike, calling the move confusing for commuters and transport operators.
She highlighted the chaos caused by mixed signals, saying streets appeared empty as people anticipated the increase before it was abruptly halted.
The criticism came after the Senate approved a bill allowing the President to suspend the excise tax on fuel to cushion rising prices from Middle East tensions.
President Marcos directed the Department of Transportation to halt the fare hike despite prior approvals by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.
Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III suggested providing subsidies to the transport industry to offset the setback caused by the suspension.
