PHILIPPINE TUNA OUTPUT JUMPS 15% ON IMPROVED REGIONAL SUPPLY

The Philippines’ tuna catch rose by 14.6 percent to an estimated 230,347 metric tons in 2025, driven by improved regional supply, according to the Department of Agriculture.

Skipjack tuna remained the dominant species, accounting for more than 58 percent of the total catch, followed by yellowfin and bigeye tuna.

The estimates were compiled using fisheries data from the Philippine Statistics Authority, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and Philippine Fisheries Development Authority in line with reporting requirements of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission.

Purse seine fisheries contributed the largest share of tuna production, while Soccsksargen recorded the highest volume of tuna landings nationwide.

Industry stakeholders also recommended improving catch reporting by expanding data coverage, standardizing gear classifications, and aligning reporting systems with international standards.
