Senator Jinggoy Estrada will be committed to the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas following an order from the Sandiganbayan’s Fifth Division in connection with a plunder case.
The court earlier issued arrest orders against Estrada and four others, including former Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan and three former DPWH-NCR officials.
Estrada voluntarily surrendered to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) at the Senate before being taken into custody.
The case stems from alleged irregularities involving public works projects, which are now under investigation by the anti-graft court.
Authorities said the other accused will also be processed for detention as legal proceedings continue.
