The Commission on Elections has subpoenaed a donor of former Senate President Francis Escudero as part of a preliminary investigation into alleged violations involving his 2022 campaign contributions.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia said the probe stems from a complaint over a ₱30-million donation from a government contractor and will also examine those who benefited from the contribution.
Garcia clarified that possible violations of Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) rules do not automatically lead to disqualification, although repeated non-compliance could result in perpetual disqualification from public office.
The case was filed by lawyer Jesus Falcis, and the investigation aims to determine whether election laws were breached in the handling of campaign funds.
