Vice President Sara Duterte questioned the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) drug war case against former President Rodrigo Duterte, arguing that widespread gun violence in the Philippines makes it difficult to attribute all alleged victims to anti-drug operations.
Speaking in The Hague, she said many killings could have resulted from personal disputes, robbery, or other crimes rather than the government’s campaign against illegal drugs.
Duterte also challenged the ICC’s evidence, citing changes in the reported number of alleged victims over time.
She maintained that her father’s anti-drug campaign was a government policy that, by itself, does not constitute a crime against humanity.
The Vice President also renewed her call for the former president’s immediate release while his case is pending.
