The Department of Education (DepEd) is intensifying efforts to combat bullying in schools with reforms targeting both traditional and emerging forms of abuse, including online harassment.
The department emphasized its commitment to ensuring safe learning environments and enforcing the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013 through measures like policy updates, comprehensive assessments, and enhanced training for school staff and parents.
New initiatives include integrating anti-bullying lessons into the K-10 curriculum starting in 2025, expanding mental health services, and implementing interventions like counseling for students who bully others.
DepEd is also working on revising the law’s guidelines to address modern challenges such as cyberbullying.
This follows reports from the Congressional Commission on Education, which labeled the Philippines as the “bullying capital of the world” due to the high rates of bullying cases in schools.
