The French Navy’s flagship aircraft carrier, Charles de Gaulle, made its first stopover in the Philippines on February 21 as part of its Indo-Pacific deployment, Mission CLEMENCEAU 25.
The nuclear-powered carrier, accompanied by a strike group, will dock in Subic Bay and Manila until February 23, marking a significant step in enhancing defense ties between the two countries.
During the visit, French and Philippine forces will conduct joint military exercises, including training between the Philippine Air Force and the carrier’s fighter jets, and drills with Philippine Navy vessels in the West Philippine Sea.
This visit follows the December 2023 defense cooperation agreement between the Philippines and France, which aims to strengthen maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Charles de Gaulle’s stopover highlights France’s commitment to regional security and maritime cooperation, building on previous French naval visits to the Philippines.
