Bulacan Gov. Daniel Fernando called for immediate relief and stronger flood control measures for communities affected by recurring floods during a meeting with Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon and local leaders on September 18.
Fernando said frequent flooding has caused years of hardship and anxiety among Bulakenyos and urged continued monitoring and proper implementation of solutions.
Dizon outlined immediate measures such as dredging waterways, installing modular barriers, and deploying mobile pumps at damaged floodgates.
Medium- and long-term plans include bamboo cribbing, dams, detention basins, water interceptors, and the possible revival of a 2000 Japan International Cooperation Agency proposal for the Labangan Channel.
Both officials stressed close coordination between the provincial government, local governments, and the DPWH to address Bulacan’s flooding problems.
