The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is accelerating the construction and repair of a 1.8-kilometer dike along the Bagbag River in Calumpit, Bulacan, with completion targeted for early 2027.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said P576 million has been allocated for the project to strengthen flood protection in the area.
The work includes sealing gaps and reinforcing damaged sections of the dike following concerns over unfinished flood control projects.
Calumpit Mayor Glorime Faustino said the municipal government will lead monitoring and evaluation to improve coordination with the DPWH.
Residents are hoping the project will be completed before another major flood hits their community.
