The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) clarified that it does not endorse or recommend any specific brand or distributor of fire extinguishers, warning that businesses claiming BFP approval are misrepresenting the agency.
BFP officials emphasized that under existing laws, such as the BFP Memorandum Circular and Republic Act 11032, BFP personnel are prohibited from selling or recommending fire safety products, with violations punishable by imprisonment and hefty fines.
The BFP urged the public to verify product quality through the Philippine Standards (PS) mark or Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) sticker.
In response to corruption allegations, the BFP reiterated its commitment to combating misconduct, including a policy requiring body-worn cameras during fire safety inspections to ensure transparency.
The BFP also assured the public that it is actively investigating complaints of extortion and corruption within its ranks, with support from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
