For the first time in a decade, Ateneo will have a coach other than Tab Baldwin on the sidelines as seasoned mentor Louie Alas takes over on an interim basis in the UAAP.
Alas, an NCAA champion coach and veteran PBA tactician, will lead the Blue Eagles againstthe University of the East at 3 p.m. today at the Mall of Asia Arena.
He previously served as Baldwin’s top deputy last season and is tasked with guiding Ateneo through a difficult period following the tragedy in Dipaculao, Aurora, last June.
Baldwin leaves behind a highly successful Ateneo tenure highlighted by four UAAP titles, six consecutive finals appearances, and a three-peat capped by a perfect 16-0 Season 82 campaign.
Alas said his immediate focus is not on matching Baldwin’s basketball achievements but on helping the team begin its healing process through the sport they love.
