Sen. Bam Aquino urged the government to develop a Filipino-made artificial intelligence (AI) model to reduce reliance on foreign systems.
He warned that continued use of foreign AI could influence Filipino culture, language, values, and perspectives.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said it is already developing a local large language model covering major and lesser-spoken Philippine languages.
DOST also presented “Itanong,” an AI chatbot that can process Filipino, English, and Taglish queries and could be used for government services.
Aquino said a Filipino AI model could eventually help citizens understand government processes, permits, and other public services.
