Senator Bam Aquino congratulated young Filipino karatekas for their medal-winning performances at the 3rd Asian Karate Youth Open Championship and Training Camp in Hangzhou, China.
The Philippine delegation, composed of athletes from FAST-ISKF and AAKR, competed from July 22 to 26, 2026, against martial artists from across Asia.
Among those recognized were nine-year-old Romeo Viktor Enriquez, who won gold in the Under-10 Male Kumite (+40 kg), and Wifredo Apellido, who secured two gold medals and a silver.
Aquino also praised other young athletes for their strong finishes, saying their achievements reflect the dedication of their coaches, parents, sports organizations, and supporters.
He said karate helps develop discipline, perseverance, resilience, and confidence among Filipino youth while providing opportunities to excel internationally.
