Apple Pay’s entry into the Philippine market has been delayed from early 2026 to the third quarter of the year to allow more major partners to join the rollout.
The delay comes after the successful launch of Google Pay in 2025, which has already gained traction among merchants and Filipino Android users.
Commuters will also wait longer for cashless payments on LRT-1 and LRT-2, as the transit lines are not yet ready for the upgrade.
The delayed LRT rollout, now expected by mid-February, aims to ensure seamless NFC and mobile payment experiences while addressing shortages of single-journey cards that cause turnstile malfunctions.
Officials noted that the system upgrade will reduce maintenance costs but may shift crowding from ticket queues to smaller platforms, particularly on LRT-1.
