Parañaque 2nd District Rep. Brian Raymund Yamsuan has urged the government to adopt work-from-home arrangements and online classes to help Filipinos cope with potential spikes in fuel prices amid escalating Middle East tensions.
He noted that workers and students relying on transportation would be the first affected if oil prices surge, with Brent crude expected to reach $85–$90 per barrel.
Yamsuan called on both the government and private sector to prepare temporary transitions to remote setups to ease the immediate burden.
In response, Palace press officer Claire Castro said President Marcos may consider a four-day workweek to conserve energy, while Marikina Rep. Miro Quimbo filed a bill granting the president authority to suspend excise taxes on petroleum products.
These measures are part of broader efforts to mitigate the economic impact of rising fuel costs linked to the conflict in the Middle East.
