Actor and former official Alfred Vargas and his wife, Yasmine Vargas,s have asked the Manila Prosecutors’ Office to reconsider the dismissal of their child abuse complaint against businessman Rob Sy and partner Juvelle Bacosa over an alleged bullying incident involving their seven-year-old child.
The couple argued that prosecutors misapplied the Anti-Bullying Act and failed to properly consider their complaint under the broader protections of Republic Act 7610, which covers child abuse outside school settings.
They also said key evidence, including eyewitness accounts and psychiatric findings, showed that the child suffered emotional and psychological harm during a swimming competition incident.
The Vargas spouses maintained that the case involves serious violations affecting a child’s dignity and well-being, not a minor dispute between minors.
The prosecutors’ office has yet to act on the motion, while the respondents have not issued a public response.
