Toby Tiangco has filed a resolution seeking a House investigation into the deaths of Ateneo de Manila University student-athletes Rene Clert Baterbonia and Divine Adili during a team-building activity in Aurora.
The proposed inquiry aims to determine accountability, examine possible lapses in safety and supervision, and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents.
Tiangco said the probe is intended to uncover the truth and honor the memory of the two athletes, not to prejudge any individual or institution.
The investigation will review health and safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and the roles of schools, coaches, and government agencies in protecting student-athletes.
The lawmaker emphasized the need to strengthen safeguards to ensure the welfare and safety of young athletes nationwide.
