The hunger rate in the Philippines surged to its highest level since the COVID-19 lockdowns, with 27.2 percent of respondents reporting involuntary hunger in the past three months, according to a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey.
This represents a significant increase from 21.2 percent in February and 15.9 percent in January.
The current hunger rate is the highest since 30.7 percent in September 2020.
Of those experiencing hunger, 21 percent faced moderate hunger, while 6.2 percent suffered from severe hunger, both figures showing a rise from the previous month.
Hunger levels also increased across all regions, with the Visayas recording the highest rate at 33.7 percent.
