The House prosecution panel has described Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte’s disclosure of 19 city government contracts with GenCorp Industries Inc. as a potentially significant development in the unexplained wealth allegations against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Mayor Duterte said the contracts, awarded since 2022, were worth a combined PHP33 million and were “above board,” while he also said he was unaware of his sister having any business interest in GenCorp.
The Senate impeachment court has subpoenaed Mayor Duterte to testify from Sept. 28 to 30 and to produce documents related to the city government’s transactions with GenCorp.
Prosecutors said they intend to question him about his role in the city’s procurement process and the company’s contracts as part of the proceedings on Article II of the impeachment case.
The prosecution is also considering asking the impeachment court to declare Mayor Duterte a hostile witness, which would allow prosecutors to use leading questions subject to the court’s ruling.
