Five proposed rainwater impounding facilities in Metro Manila could store up to 107,600 cubic meters of rainwater and require an estimated PHP4.05 billion in funding.
The projects, which will be administered by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, aim to strengthen flood mitigation and reduce pressure on drainage systems during heavy rains and high tides.
The facilities are planned for Camp Aguinaldo, Miriam College, Remedios Circle, Rajah Sulayman Park, and the ASEAN Garden at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex.
Camp Aguinaldo would have the largest capacity at 50,000 cubic meters, followed by Miriam College at 30,000 cubic meters, while the other three sites would collectively hold 27,600 cubic meters.
The projects are among 39 priority sites identified for rainwater catchment structures, with funding subject to government review, approval, budgeting, and procurement processes.
