Davao City acting mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte was challenged to a charity boxing match by PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III, scheduled today at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.
Despite Duterte’s initial challenge, Torre confirmed he will fight regardless of Duterte’s attendance, with undercard matches set to entertain the audience beforehand.
The event aims to raise funds for flood victims, with proceeds going to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Duterte, currently in Singapore, set difficult conditions for the fight, widely seen as a way to avoid the bout.
However, Duterte later said he’s willing to fight Torre—just not today, suggesting Tuesday instead—and clarified his initial “challenge” was more about expressing dissatisfaction than a literal fight.
