Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas-Chu and her father, former Mayor Jerry Treñas, are accused by DPWH-Iloilo City District Engineer Roy Pacanan of undermining the department’s waterway projects through illegal cease-and-desist orders.
Treñas-Chu halted several DPWH projects, blaming them for recent flooding, but Pacanan refuted these claims and called the stoppage orders legally invalid.
Pacanan warned that the DPWH will pursue legal remedies, including invoking the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, if the orders are enforced.
This dispute follows a history of conflict between the DPWH office and the Treñas family, including previous project stoppages and Jerry Treñas declaring Pacanan persona non grata.
The clash highlights ongoing political tensions affecting flood control efforts in Iloilo City.
