Filipinos have expressed frustration online over frequent power outages in popular tourist destinations like Boracay, Siargao, and Siquijor, with residents and tourists venting their complaints on social media.
In Boracay, a power outage lasting at least 18 hours on May 4 was caused by a transmission line fault, affecting parts of Aklan, including the island.
Siargao also experienced power interruptions in early May, with locals and tourists experiencing blackouts due to a tripped transmission line, while a major blackout last December left the island in the dark for 13 days.
Siquijor continues to struggle with power instability, leading to complaints about the inadequate maintenance by the island’s sole energy supplier, SIPCOR.
These outages, particularly in key tourism areas, are causing business losses, and consumer groups are urging investments in renewable energy and stricter accountability measures to ensure reliable electricity.
