Senator Grace Poe called for stronger laws to prevent animal cruelty, following recent dog killings in broad daylight.
She condemned the killing of a stray dog named “Tiger” in Subic, where a meat vendor stabbed the dog after it allegedly took a piece of meat from his stall.
Poe emphasized that while the Animal Welfare Act protects animals, greater enforcement and awareness are needed to prevent such incidents.
She urged local government units to conduct information campaigns to ensure that citizens are aware of animal welfare laws.
Poe also announced that a bill to strengthen the Animal Welfare Law has passed the Senate’s second reading and is expected to pass the final reading soon.
