The Philippines emerged as the top-performing Southeast Asian nation at the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships after securing a silver and bronze medal in a strong campaign.
Ana Bhianca Espenilla delivered a personal-best 52.20-meter throw to win silver in the women’s shot put, while Jerico Cadag captured bronze in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase.
Their performances placed Team Philippines 13th overall in the continental competition, ahead of regional rivals including Thailand.
The Philippine delegation, backed by the Philippine Sports Commission and coached by Roselyn Hamero and Jonah Genilza, ended the meet on a high note with breakthrough results from its young athletes.
Several members of the team are now preparing for the upcoming World U20 Athletics Championships in Oregon in August.
