The Philippines’ total health expenditure increased by 17 percent in 2024, reaching P1.56 trillion, up from P1.33 trillion in 2023, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
On average, each Filipino spent P12,751 on health care in 2024, an 18 percent rise from the previous year.
Health spending accounted for 5.9 percent of the country’s GDP, up from 5.5 percent in 2023.
The increase was driven by higher incomes, more government health coverage, and the expansion and modernization of medical facilities.
Government and compulsory health financing schemes made up the largest portion of health spending, followed closely by household out-of-pocket payments.
