The Philippine aviation industry recorded the fastest growth in Southeast Asia in April despite rising oil prices, according to aviation data analyst OAG.
The country ranked third in the region in flight capacity with 5.82 million seats, but led in growth after adding 687,000 seats, a 13.4% increase from last year.
Domestic flights also rose by 16% to 4.15 million seats, bucking the regional trend of declining capacity.
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport logged 2.91 million departures, making it the fifth busiest airport in Southeast Asia, while AirAsia remained the region’s largest carrier in seat capacity.
However, airlines, including Cebu Pacific, continue to face challenges from high fuel costs and weaker demand, prompting possible revisions in passenger growth targets.
