Senator Sherwin Gatchalian stated that parents and schools could face civil liability for violent incidents involving minors, citing the recent fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old girl at Moonwalk National High School in Parañaque.
The girl was killed by a classmate who brought a kitchen knife into the school following an argument.
Gatchalian emphasized that schools should enforce stricter security measures, as they act as students’ “second parents.”
While he acknowledged the prompt response of authorities in apprehending the suspect, he called for more accountability in preventing such incidents.
Meanwhile, Rep. Angelica Natasha Co announced that the House Committee on the Welfare of Children would investigate the rising incidents of violence in schools, expressing concern over unreported cases.
